Placement Opportunities 

Throughout the year, we offer volunteer placement opportunities for counsellors who are ready to begin clinical practice within a supportive agency setting.

We believe that working as a counsellor in training offers unique opportunities for both personal and professional growth. As you develop your clinical skills, you'll be supported by an experienced team who are committed to maintaining high professional standards through reflection, learning, and constructive challenge.

As counselling qualifications continue to evolve, we assess all placement applications on an individual basis. Applicants should have obtained their Fitness to Practise (or expect to receive this within the next two months), hold an appropriate student membership with either the BACP or NCPS, and be able to demonstrate that their training has prepared them to work safely and ethically with the range of clients seen within our service.

We welcome applications from counsellors of all backgrounds. We are particularly keen to hear from people from underrepresented communities, those from different faith backgrounds, and those who are bi- or multilingual, as this helps us better reflect and support the diverse communities we serve.

Volunteer placements are available throughout the year and require a commitment to one regular counselling session each week (supporting up to three clients), fortnightly group supervision, quarterly team meetings, and continuing professional development (CPD), with the latter two usually taking place on Saturdays.

All counselling sessions, whether delivered in person, online, or by telephone, are provided from our offices in Southampton or Bournemouth. Group supervision is also held in person, and team meetings and CPD are usually based at our Southampton office.
