Back to School!
What motivates you to be a therapist?
A huge motivator that led me to working with young people, running programmes to help young adults back into work, and currently running an Alternative Educational Programme for local young people on the Isle Wight, whilst helping to develop a counselling service for people on the Isle of Wight - is that feeling of being alone when I was growing up and would have liked some help. That's the fuel that feeds my engine really.
How would you describe your approach to therapy?
I use a Person Centred approach to help create a welcoming and comfortable space so that clients can be themselves. I also believe in being Solution-Focused which helps motivate the belief that progress is possible. I tend to use a mix of approaches to enable me to respond to the way the client communicates and understands.
How do you, as a therapist, stay balanced and motivated?
I love the outdoors and being active. If I'm active then I can declutter whilst I'm going about my business. Meeting up with friends and listening to some good tunes also works for me.
What inspires you outside of work to continue developing your practice?
A feeling that I want to spend more 1-2-1 therapeutic time with clients.
What do you hope clients take away from their session(s) with you?
Self-belief and a little bit of optimism. I'd be quite happy with that.
