How would you describe your approach to therapy?
I subscribe to the Person-Centred therapeutic approach, where the you bring what you want to talk about each week, and I bring an non-judgemental, empathetic attitude. Within this space, you and myself work towards the goals that you want to achieve. It sounds like a simple approach, and in a lot of ways it is, but it requires determination and commitment from you to achieve successful results.
How would you describe your personality in three words?
I would say I am warm, smart and kind-hearted.
How do you, as a therapist, stay balanced and motivated?
Having a clear distinction between home life and work life is important. I have found that having hobbies is a good way to chill out but also give a routine. This might be reading, or going to the movies each week. This might be exercising or meditating each day. It's important to strike a balance between hobbies that are purely joyful (the former examples), and hobbies that require a bit of discipline, but you do as they benefit your mental health (the latter examples).
How do you handle resistance or doubt from clients?
Resistance and doubt can be natural feelings within a therapeutic space. I encourage you to bring these feelings to me (or any other counsellor), as adjustments or reassurments can be made for you.
What do you hope clients take away from their session(s) with you?
I hope you can look forward to your sessions, and I hope you go away feeling a bit lighter after each session, as I want my sessions to be there for people who need to offload a bit of the weight life can bring into our lives. I hope you can see a step towards achieving your goals and have patience if it doesn't seem like progress is happening fast enough, and trust in the process.
