Doing Couple Counselling - The KvLS Method
What motivates you to be a therapist?
I have always felt deeply drawn to understanding others, whether that be the hardships you may face, the joys that only you know or simply how you work and operate! Life can be messy, hard and filled with overwhelming difficulties and I want you to know that I see you, and you are validated. To me, life is a huge curveball, filled with peaks and valleys and it can become easy to isolate and ignore those hardships. However, talking about those difficulties can open a path to self-discovery, self-compassion and self-awareness.
That’s my intention; to be with you and collaboratively help you move from feelings of being stuck, lost, isolated and disconnected to self-acceptance, self-healing, with a fresh perspective to your life. There is always something new to learn about ourselves and about life and I feel privileged to be there with you on your journey.
What would you want clients to know about their growth process?
Your growth process is exactly that, yours. It is incredibly easy to compare ourselves to others and the stages we are at in life however, growth in your healing journey is unique and enlightening to who you are now. Your healing journey isn’t linear and you may experience set backs and possibly feel that you are failing but your motivation and determination in your journey is essential, there is no failing only progress. We all aim to reach our full potential in whatever capacity we can give in the here-and-now, and we navigate this with time, care and respect to ourselves from where we first started.
How do you approach sensitive or difficult topics?
With great care, understanding and compassion. There is no judgement in what is shared and may be very important for you to discuss. Taking time, space and acceptance towards sensitive or difficult topics can allow you to really feel what these topics mean to you and how they have impacted you and possibly, new feelings and thought may be discovered. Holding space and silence for you is something I am comfortable with as you may need time to reflect and understand these topics in a way that is helpful to you.
How much room do you allow for humour and lightness in sessions?
Humour is absolutely welcome in sessions! Sometimes humour can really lighten our moods and help us through difficult times. Sometimes sharing a good joke or laugh can give us fresh perspective and see things differently, without belittling or invalidating the experience. Humour is a great and helpful technique in restoring self-esteem and confidence by appreciating and seeing other sides to our experiences.
How would you describe your personality in three words?
Warm, silly and honest.
