Doing Couple Counselling - The KvLS Method
How would you describe your approach to therapy?
I like to keep things simple and practical. My sessions are guided by what feels helpful for you in the moment, whether that’s talking things through, trying out a technique, or just being listened to.
Therapy should feel safe, relaxed, and real, and there’s always room for a bit of humour if it fits!
What are your favourite techniques or methods in therapy?
My approach is flexible and tailored to you. I apply the techniques that feel most helpful and relatable in the moment, always keeping sessions supportive, practical, and focused on helping you move forward.
I use a variety of therapeutic techniques such as psychotherapy which draws on looking at past experiences and CBT which explors how you think and the way it affects how you feel and act.
I also like to work using hypnotherapy which encompasses using guided imagery, visualisation, and breathing exercises, plus practical tools you can use in daily life.
The main thing is that I use the techniques that are right for you at that time and adapt as we go.
What inspires you outside of work to continue developing your practice?
I have always been active and in to fitness - it's a big part of my life, and even more so now as I get older - I am even more motivated to keep fit - mentally and physically. This plays hugely into my feeling of self-worth.
How would you describe your ideal therapeutic relationship & what type of client do you work well with?
I see therapy as a partnership. I work best with clients who are open to exploring and learning about themselves, and taking things one small step at a time, even if you feel unsure at first. A relationship that evolves, always based on a solid foundation of trust and commitment.
How do you, as a therapist, stay balanced and motivated?
I live by the same principles I encourage in you: reflection, self-care, and fun.
I stay active, I'm in the gym 3 times a week and practice martial arts too. I love football (commited fan!) and travelling. I am fortunate to have travelled all over Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and South America and love planning our next family adventures! I love hanging out with my dog Rocco, a 2 year old Belgian Malinois who is a handful - oh and of course family time with my partner and 10 year old son!
